Ethoxylated cardanol is used as oil in water emulsifiers in pesticides and as wetting agent and detergent  in textile industries.

Cardanol structure can be modified to incorporate improved ion exchange capabilities such as introduction of a sulphonic acid group on the phenolic ring. The ion exchange resins are said to be good emulsifiers for oil-in-water and water-in-oil systems.
